Job Summary

As an Engineer you will be part of a large established, experienced and growing team, based in AECOM’s multidisciplinary Basingstoke office. You will have the opportunity to progress your career through working on a diverse range of significant development infrastructure projects (across all stages of development), for a range of Clients. You will also have the opportunity to be part of a proactive learning environment within a wider national community of infrastructure engineers.

In summary you will:

  • Undertake design or elements of design, with appropriate training and supervision.

  • Continue to develop a wide range of infrastructure design and project management expertise, having a keen interest in your personal development.

  • Continue progress towards an appropriate professional qualification.

  • Take on new responsibilities commensurate with experience.

Job Duties:

  • Undertake civil infrastructure design with appropriate training and supervision.

  • Contribute to management of the technical, financial and management requirements of development related infrastructure projects (including planning, control and monitoring from feasibility through to detailed design phase and construction support).

  • Understand and play an active part in the project assurance process, including taking part in technical reviews.

  • Provide a client focused service which results in on-going satisfaction and repeat business.

  • Build effective relationships within teams, across the organisation.

  • Take a proactive approach to developing your own skills and those of others.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers

  • Support work-winning initiatives.

  • Work in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with appropriate supervision.

  • Demonstrate initiative and propose approach to solve new problems encountered.

  • Understand and work in accordance with the requirements of the Construction Design and Management regulations.

Specific Skills Required:

Without being prescriptive we are seeking a blend of skills from the following list, with the understanding experience levels in specific technical areas may vary at this stage of your career.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).

  • Demonstrable proactive approach to continuing professional development.

  • Demonstrable awareness and understanding of BIM and coordinated 3D design as well as current technological advances in the design process.

  • Uses analysis of relevant information and own judgement to make informed and sound decisions.

  • A blend of experience in some or all of the following: design of highways, access roads and infrastructure of development projects including road geometry, public realm, earthworks, pavements, drainage and underground services.

  • An understanding of the corresponding relevant standards for example: MCHW, DMRB, MfS and local authority design guidance.

  • A knowledge of road design using 3D computer modelling packages, such as Civils 3D.

  • A knowledge of drainage design from first principles, including piped systems, SuDS based systems and familiarity with storage design and computer programs such as MicroDrainage.

  • Be able to co-ordinate with Statutory Utilities to ensure capacity for new development exists within existing networks.

  • Be able to identify, design and procure Statutory Utilities diversions and be familiar with NRSWA procedures;

  • A knowledge of construction contracts (E.g. NEC or similar);

  • Be commercially aware.

  • A knowledge of preparing Risk Assessments to comply with the CDM Regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in UK development related infrastructure engineering; likely to be from a private/consultancy background.

  • Ideally to have experience in the preparation of contract drawings and specifications fpr Section 38 and 278 Agreements for highway works, 104 and 106 Agreements for sewers and also utilities works experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working towards a professional qualification.

  • Degree qualified with a relevant Masters degree preferred.
