Master's programs

Unesp offers the second largest structure for Graduate studies in the Brazil with 152 Graduate Programs. Our programs are characterized by the diversity of courses offered in all areas of knowledge, academic relevance and comprehensiveness.

Unesp Graduate Programs have approximately 3.200 professor-mentors, 14.000 students regularly enrolled and an average of 3.300 Masters and PhD degrees awarded annually.

Students enrolled in Unesp programs have the opportunity to apply for institutional scholarships offered by Capes, CNPq and research scholarships offered by Fapesp. Students can also participate in national and international events that contribute to their training. It is worth mentioning the quality of the Unesp campus libraries, which offer excellent conditions for students to develop their projects.

The quantity and quality of the research carried out by these Programs were essential to place Unesp under the global spotlight, as the university ranks among the top universities in several international rankings. In times of global universities, Unesp promotes several actions aimed at mobility and the international exchange of students and professors, expanding scientific collaborations and institutional partnerships.

The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), a foundation of the Ministry  of Education, is the body responsible for graduate education policy and for consolidating and expanding stricto sensu programs (Masters and PhD) in Brazil.

In 1976, CAPES implemented the  National System of Evaluation of Graduate Education. This system is the basis of the process for authorization and recognition of  Master's and PhDs courses and for the national validation of their diplomas. The evaluation process is based on the analysis by peers of the reports of the courses on their annual performance. A  grade (from 1 to 7) is given to each program, which is now reviewed every four years.

A very traditional field whose market is expanding even more

The major offers classes with qualified professors, modern labs, and promising student exchange programs

** Double Degree

An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, one of the most traditional engineering disciplines, prepares future professionals to work in six main areas: construction, structures, geotechnics, hydraulics, sanitation, and transportation. A civil engineer is responsible for calculating, constructing, operating, and maintaining buildings, means of transportation, urban equipment, and projects related to energy use, sanitation, and environmental security.

At UNESP, the major is offered at the campuses located in Bauru, Guaratinguetá, and Ilha Solteira. Besides basic courses, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Technical Drawing, students also take specific and vocational classes, such as Transport Phenomena, Hydraulics, Soil Mechanics, Geotechnics, Strength of Materials, Topography, Structural Analysis, Roads Project and Rail Transport, and Sanitation Works.

In all the campuses, students are expected to participate in a mandatory internship that lasts a minimum of 180 hours, in private or public companies. The professors are one of the main advantages of this major. Many of them are widely renowned professionals in the field of Civil Engineering in Brazil, some of them received their degrees from foreign universities, and most of them are also highly qualified researchers.

Wherever students decide to enroll for this program, they will encounter several opportunities for exchange programs as a result of partnerships between UNESP and foreign universities. As well as professors and researchers, students may also spend some time working and studying abroad, either through said partnerships with great universities in France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, or Latin America, or through IAESTE - the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience.

The state-of-the-art labs the campuses are provided with allow not only a great understanding of the discipline, but also the development of several researches in the area. Besides, an excellent infrastructure enables and stimulates researches developed by students, who may even receive scholarships in order to do so. Extracurricular activities and community service are also excellent possibilities for students.

They may also participate in technical tours to facilities and plants in nearby cities. In addition, the schools constantly arrange long-distance trips to companies related to the area.

In Bauru, students may even take complementary short-term courses. Besides regular academic activities, all the campuses frequently promote conferences and lecture cycles, such as Semana da Engenharia (the Engineering Week), a one-week event exclusively devoted to the field of engineering.

In Ilha Solteira there is the only Civil Engineering academic extension group in the whole university. Moreover, several workshops are promoted every year as a way to complement students’ education. The three campuses have outstanding libraries, and besides having great facilities, they have another thing in common: they all try to promote a useful integration between undergraduate and graduate students.

Since the engineering market is considerably strong, students that choose UNESP as their university will easily find a good job position, along with more than satisfying earnings. With the upcoming of great sporting events and the major infrastructure investments they require, such market trend is very likely to hold up.
