An established and highly respected New York City structural and geotechnical consulting firm is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its growing team.

This is an opportunity to step into a visible leadership role on complex urban projects while helping shape and mentor the next generation of engineers.

The Opportunity

You will play a key role in delivering geotechnical solutions across challenging NYC sites, including high-rise buildings, deep excavations, and urban infrastructure projects. The role blends technical expertise with team leadership and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical analysis and design for complex urban projects

  • Design and review Support of Excavation (SOE) systems in NYC

  • Perform and oversee pile foundation design (driven piles, drilled shafts, micropiles)

  • Develop foundation recommendations, settlement analyses, and earth retention systems

  • Review geotechnical reports, calculations, and technical documentation

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables

  • Mentor and motivate junior geotechnical engineers

  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, and design teams

  • Participate in meetings with architects, structural engineers, and owners

  • Support proposal development and business development initiatives


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 6–20 years of geotechnical engineering experience

  • Strong NYC Support of Excavation (SOE) design experience

  • Extensive experience with pile and deep foundation design

  • Proven experience working on building projects in dense urban environments

  • PE license (NY preferred or ability to obtain)

  • Strong knowledge of NYC Building Code and local agency requirements

  • Experience managing and mentoring junior engineers

  • Confident communicator with client-facing experience

  • Ability to balance technical depth with leadership responsibility
