The Chair of Policy & Sustainability (PASU) at EPFL is looking for a PhD student to join our team and work on a project funded by NCCR CLIM+ (“Climate Extremes and Society: Strengthening Resilience”), a new National Center of Competence in Research.
The project is about formal and empirical models of (geo)economic and political vulnerabilities to climate-related shocks, and the identification of optimal foreign policies to reduce them. The ideal starting date is September 1, 2026.
Main tasks and responsibilities
As a PhD Student, you will be expected to:
- Full responsibility for your own dissertation
- Research in close collaboration with industry partners
- Participate in education

Profile
- MSc/MA in (quantitative) economics, political science, or public policy. Students with an engineering or math background (eg operations research, industrial engineering, data science) are welcome to apply if they can demonstrate an interest in the social sciences.
- Strong skills in modeling (eg, microeconomics, game theory, mechanism design) and/or quantitative methods (causal inference, econometrics, ML).
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) (French is not required).
- Driven, enthusiastic, and interested in working in multi-disciplinary environments.
