We are seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to play a key role in expanding and strengthening a growing transportation practice in Edison, NJ.

This is not just a production role. This is a practice-building opportunity.

You’ll help develop and shape in-house traffic capabilities supporting bridge, roadway, and infrastructure projects throughout NJ and NY — particularly for NJDOT and NYSDOT clients. The right person won’t just run analyses. They’ll lead, mentor, contribute to pursuits, and integrate traffic engineering into multidisciplinary transportation solutions.

If you’re comfortable operating beyond traditional traffic silos and want real influence in how a practice grows, this is a serious platform.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Perform and review traffic engineering analyses:

    • Capacity analysis

    • Signal analysis

    • Intersection evaluation

    • Corridor studies (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM or similar)

  • Lead preparation of Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT) and staging plans

  • Develop traffic control, signing, and pavement marking plans in accordance with NJDOT, NJTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, and MUTCD standards

  • Lead and support traffic impact studies and operational improvement projects

  • Coordinate closely with structural and civil teams to create practical, constructible staging solutions

  • Serve as task lead and technical authority on traffic assignments

  • Participate in site visits and constructability reviews

  • Provide technical support during construction administration

  • Support agency coordination and client engagement related to traffic and work zone impacts

  • Contribute to proposals, qualifications packages, and business development efforts

What They’re Looking For

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering (or Electrical Engineering with transportation focus)

  • 8–25 years of traffic engineering experience

  • NJ PE required

  • NY PE strongly preferred or ability to obtain

  • PTOE preferred

  • Strong experience with NJDOT, NJTA, NYSDOT, or NYCDOT standards

  • Deep background in MPT/staging and work zone traffic control

  • Experience with traffic modeling software (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM or similar)

  • Signal design and timing experience preferred

  • AutoCAD preferred; MicroStation a plus

  • Proven ability to manage assignments and mentor junior staff

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Growth Opportunity

This role is part of a strategic initiative to expand multidisciplinary transportation capabilities.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Help define internal traffic engineering processes

  • Grow and mentor internal talent

  • Strengthen agency relationships

  • Build a scalable traffic engineering group

  • Influence long-term practice development

This is for someone who wants ownership — not just tasks.

If you’re at a point in your career where you want to help build something and leave a mark on a regional transportation practice, this is worth a serious conversation.

Employment Type: Permanent. Sector: Civil & Structural. Salary Description: $140,000 - $180,000.
