Civil Engineering Technician – Dundee
Are you an experienced civil engineering technician looking for your next opportunity? We’re working with a respected consultancy seeking a skilled Civil Engineering Technician to join their Dundee-based team.
Role Overview
As a Civil Engineering Technician, you will support the design and delivery of a range of civil and infrastructure projects such as highways, drainage, earthworks and structural works. You will prepare drawings, digital models and technical documentation that contribute to high-quality, standards-compliant engineering solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Produce detailed engineering drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD, Civil 3D (or similar design software).
- Assist with design and detailing of highways, drainage, and earthworks in line with UK design standards.
- Help prepare design reports, calculations and technical documentation.
- Perform site surveys, inspections and data collection as required.
- Support the development of planning, tender and construction package documentation.
- Liaise with statutory bodies, local authorities, contractors and utility providers as needed.
- Maintain accurate project records and drawings within the project’s document management system.
- Ensure all work complies with design standards, health & safety legislation, and company procedures.
You should have:
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in a UK civil engineering or infrastructure-design environment.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D), and working knowledge of Civil 3D or similar (e.g. MicroDrainage).
- Good understanding of relevant UK design standards and construction practices (e.g. DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations).
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable attributes include:
- Experience in a consultancy or local authority setting.
- Familiarity with BIM processes and digital design tools (e.g. Revit, Navisworks).
- Exposure to sustainable drainage design (SuDS) and environmental design considerations.
- Progression towards professional accreditation (e.g. EngTech / Incorporated status).
