A top technology design consultancy with various markets including: medical, aerospace, renewable energy, automotive, consumer products etc... they are currently looking to recruit an experienced mechanical engineer with extensive mechanical design experience (2 years minimum) to join their successful and growing design and development technical team. This is a rare exceptional opportunity for a talented creative mechanical design engineer. If you are a highly motivated individual with a desire to be challenged, express yourself, and make a difference, this design consultancy will excite you. You will be encouraged to take on project management responsibilities as well as technical leadership roles, liaising directly with our clients. However, should support or guidance be required, this is always available from other team members. Their staff are our most important asset. To maintain and improve our high professional standards we provide regular professional and technical development training for all our staff. Competitive salaries, together with other benefits such as discretionary bonus and profit related pay schemes, are offered and regularly reviewed. Listed below are the key attributes we will be looking for from potential candidates: Mechanical Engineering degree: A broad-based mechanical engineering degree from a well-established university with a strong engineering reputation. A 1st or Upper 2nd degree is essential (or equivalent qualification). Good, wide-ranging technical background: Your university course should have covered a range of engineering disciplines ¡V structures, mechanics, dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics, etc. Your subsequent industrial experience should involve the practical application of as many of these theoretical skills as possible, together with the addition of further skills and knowledge through formal training courses and on the job experience. Experience: Candidates should have worked in a mechanical design environment playing a key technical engineering role in the development team. They should have been involved in taking at least one product through the complete design process. Experience is required of a range of product types, manufacturing processes and materials that builds on the diversity of your technical training. Good, confident communicator: At the start of any project we have to convince the potential client that we are worth investing in. This is partly a matter of confidence. Typically, engineering staff will be asked to attend these preliminary meetings. They need to listen well; process the information provided and contribute intelligently to the conversation. Ideally, our contribution at this stage should be professional and creative, suggesting that we are well placed to tackle the project. The engineers at these meetings must also ensure that they collect sufficient information to be able to structure a detailed quotation. This will include tasks, deliverables, costs and timescales for the complete project. The quotation is typically prepared jointly by one of the Directors and one of the engineers or designers. Throughout the project we present our work formally to our clients. This needs to be done professionally and confidently. Creative problem-solving: Our business is design and to be successful we need to be better at than our competitors. That means coming up with novel solutions that are cheaper, more efficient, smaller, more functional, etc. In many cases, part of our brief will be to develop patentable features in the design to block competition. Logical and well organised: We work under extreme time pressure, and usually engineers will be working on two or more projects at once. To do this efficiently and effectively you need to be well organised in managing your time. Commercially aware: We sell our design expertise. There is no physical end product. To be successful we have to design at a profit. This means limiting the number of man-hours spent on a task to the number estimated in the quotation. Design is open-ended. It is possible to go on improving a design forever. Engineers need to be pragmatic and draw work to a close when they have developed the best solution available in the allocated time. They also need to be aware of the work that was quoted for and highlight areas of work that are requested beyond the original scope of the quotation. In such cases we may be able to negotiate further funding and hence increased time. Project management skills: Once established, say after a year, an engineer will be expected to manage projects. This will involve selecting and organising the team, managing budgets and timescales, liaising and presenting to the client. Appreciation of non-functional design aspects: We operate in multi-functional project teams and engineers need to co-operate with designers and electronics engineers and be prepared to compromise in order to blend the visual and functional aspects of a product. You will also need to be:- Team member Self-reliant Enthusiastic Hardworking and proud of your work Lots of benefits and attractive salary!!! Interested? Please apply now!!!
