Job Description

You will become part of an international team working on the verification of electrical quality and electrical integrity of superconducting magnets and circuits in the HL-LHC IT String facility project.

As an engineer:

  • You will be involved in different tasks, and in particular, to perform electrical tests of new HL-LHC magnets, interconnections, components, and circuits in the IT String facility and in the HL-LHC galleries.
  • You will help to design, develop, and build new test devices and measurement equipment of ELQA for HL-LHC.
  • You will follow-up the non-conformities by collecting, organizing, and analysing ELQA data coming from the HL collaborating partners who manufacture cold powering equipment. You will take part in localising and diagnosing faulty components that might be present in the newly built devices.
  • You will also draft and improve test procedures and document test results.

Qualifications

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
  • You have a Master’s degree and between 2 and 6 years’ experience or PhD with up to 3 years of relevant experience in applied electromechanical engineering or other related field;
  • You should have a working knowledge of English or French.

Skills and/or knowledge:

  • Electromagnetic and mechanical design;
  • Finite element analysis;
  • Design for manufacture using laminations, winding, impregnation and insulation technologies.

Additional Information

What we offer:

  • An employment contract of in principle 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months;
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French;
  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6050 and 6650 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax);
  • Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund;
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract;
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
