STEM Promise Scholarship - Science, Technology and Engineering - $0 in tuition

Take advantage of opportunities in fields like engineering and information technology at Tidewater Community College!

TCC and the TCC Women’s Center are proud to announce a new scholarship designed to boost the number of degrees in science, technology and engineering awarded to women and minority students: The TCC Women’s Center STEM Promise Program.

The TCC STEM Promise Program awards 30 scholarships each year to qualifying students. The scholarship pays tuition and fees for 2 full academic years at TCC.

Why a STEM Promise program?

STEM educators and employers agree that a diverse talent pool is vital if we are to create the technologies we need today and tomorrow to improve lives, ensure national security and grow our economy. Yet, 84% of the science and engineering workforce is white or Asian male.

U.S. colleges are trying to address a persistent challenge: How to create a larger and more diverse STEM workforce pipeline.

It’s a huge problem. TCC is doing its part by establishing the Women’s Center STEM Promise Scholarship Program.

What does the scholarship provide?

Thirty students a year will be awarded 2-year scholarships to pursue STEM degrees at TCC – degrees that will take them directly into their careers or to a 4-year college to complete a bachelor’s degree.

The TCC Women’s Center STEM Promise Program pays the full cost of tuition and fees for up to 4 semesters. You will graduate having paid $0 in tuition, ready to enter a career or to transfer to a 4-year college!

You'll enjoy TCC's smaller class sizes and interaction with professors who are interested in your success.

You'll also receive specialized support from dedicated advisors and STEM career exploration and mentoring from the TCC Women's Center.

Where can you go?

TCC has guaranteed transfer agreements with top 4-year universities. Here are just a few:

  • Old Dominion University
  • Regent University
  • Virginia Commonwealth University
  • Virginia Tech
  • George Mason University
