#### Financial aid

The Student Loan Program is a joint venture between the institution and the federal government. Low interest loans are available to eligible students who are enrolled at least half-time.

The maximum amount a first-year student can receive is $3500 not to exceed$1750 per semester. A second-year student may receive a maximum of $4500 or$2250 per semester. This loan must be repaid and repayment will begin six months after graduation, leaving Dyersburg State, or dropping below half-time.

A student may borrow a maximum at DSCC of $16,000 ($3500 for two years at the freshman level and $4500 at the sophomore level). The$16,000 limit will apply to transfer and returning students. Exceptions to this policy may be made by the Financial Aid Appeals Committee on a case-by-case basis upon submission of a documented financial need for the additional funds.

Students may apply for a student loan no later than 30 days after classes begin each term.  Loans made after this date would require documented need and exceptions would be rare.

A student will have their total loan amount borrowed to date reviewed at the checkpoints indicated above. The purpose of the review is for the student and the institution to evaluate the total amount borrowed to date compared to the progress of the student toward graduation.
