You have found the Sustainability program that WORKS! CFCC’s Sustainability Technologies program is a unique and flexible curriculum designed to meet the challenges of the new energy economy. The program’s three focus areas – Sustainability, Renewable Energy, and Building Performance – overlap to provide a technology-oriented Degree that can be found nowhere else. Course work includes energy use, energy auditing, energy management, energy modeling, building science, weatherization, construction, green building, electricity, renewable energy, photovoltaics, solar thermal, wind, hydroelectricity, site assessment, sustainability, business sustainability, water quality, water use, waste and recycling, environmental technology, and safety. The program places a priority on hands-on training using the latest industry-standard equipment. A number of professional credentials – including LEED® Green Associate, NABCEP PV Associate, NABCEP Solar Heating Associate, OSHA 30-hour Safety Card, ISO 14001 Awareness, Procore Fundamentals Associate, and S/P2 Construction – are weaved into the curriculum to better prepare students for employment.
The program is connected to the community and has relationships with many local businesses, non-profits, and governments. Sustainability Technologies students are encouraged to get involved in in community activities, conferences, and networking events. In the cooperative and multi-disciplinary spirit of sustainability we take our relationship with our community seriously.
Graduates of the Associate in Applied Science Degree have the comprehensive knowledge to be competitive in many industries including construction, energy auditing, energy management, facilities management, home inspection, water, stormwater, solar, wind, solar thermal, waste, environmental, consulting, sales and non-profit. In addition, a number of college transfer opportunities exist for students wishing to continue their education, including great transfer programs with Appalachian State University, East Carolina University, and NC State University. You can save a ton of money by taking classes at CFCC before transferring to one of these universities to obtain a Bachelor or Master degree.
