We are proud of our established history as the oldest continuing chemical engineering programme in England. Our suite of versatile, highly successful MSc postgraduate programmes cover the subject areas of Process and Information Systems Engineering and Petroleum and Renewable Energy Systems Engineering.
We undertake research in a variety of cross disciplinary groupings as well as within internal research centres, Centre for Osmosis Research and Applications (CORA), Centre for Connected Plants of the Future, and Centre for Advanced Process Intensification.

The research undertaken by our staff is industrially relevant and internationally excellent. The research themes are both numerous and diverse covering areas from geomechanics, structural engineering and infrastructure asset management through to water engineering, pollution control and waste management.

We were ranked second in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials unit of assessment for the scale and impact of its research. 93 per cent of our research was rated as world leading or internationally excellent.
Our postgraduate taught programmes cover the subject areas of materials and biomedical engineering. Many of the modules making up these MSc's can also be taken as a short course designed to provide continuing professional development.
Alongside our teaching activities, the Department has a considerable range of research interests, carrying out research in fluid dynamics, materials & structures, biomedical engineering, robotics, structural integrity and vehicle engineering.
Our postgraduate fees are payable for each academic year, or each stage of your programme. Students are liable to pay revised fees annually for the duration of the programme.
On certain masters’ programmes, you may need to pay for special equipment, field courses or study periods overseas, in addition to your fees. Details of these expenses may be obtained from the appropriate faculty or department. We also have a number of scholarships available for eligible postgraduate students including the international scholarship for Engineering and Physical Sciences.
