About MEng Civil Engineering with Study in Continental Europe

If you are creative, enjoy design and aspire to improve the built environment we live in, then civil engineering is for you. This degree will equip you to find solutions to environmental problems and to design large and unique structures, such as buildings, bridges, dams and coastal defences. At Bristol, you will have access to our world-class laboratory facilities including the most advanced earthquake shaking table in Europe.

The Study in Continental Europe degree is a great opportunity to broaden your view of the world and experience a different culture. You will be able to spend your third year at one of our European partner universities.

The first two years provide a strong foundation in engineering, including mathematics, structures, soil and fluid mechanics, computing and surveying, as well as optional units. You will also take language units to prepare you for studying abroad in a foreign language. More optional units are introduced in subsequent years, allowing you to pursue your interests while developing key professional skills.

During your third year overseas, your course of study will mirror the third-year curriculum at Bristol. Visit Global Opportunities to find out more about where you can study abroad. You will return to Bristol for your fourth and final year.

Design is central to the course, and this is reflected in the projects you will undertake. In the first year you will develop a solution to an open-ended problem, such as designing and making a model bridge. Later projects include steel work, reinforced concrete, geotechnical design and water supply systems.

We equip you with the skills needed to become a future leader in civil engineering. Our graduates are highly sought after by top employers, including civil engineering consultancies, utility companies, the army, and petroleum, public transport, power generation and supply companies.

38 points overall with 18 at Higher Level, including 7, 6 (in any order) at Higher Level in Mathematics and a science-related subject
Requirements for principal subjects are as for A-level, where D1/ D2 is A*, D3 is A, M1/ M2 is B, M3 is C
Pass Access to HE Diploma (Engineering, Engineering Science, Maths and Engineering, Science, or Science and Engineering) with 30 credits at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit. At least 15 graded level 3 credits at Distinction in Mathematics and 12 graded level 3 credits at Distinction in another science subject. The Mathematics units taken should include study of calculus, algebra and trigonometry. Plus A in A-level Mathematics or achieving the required level in the University of Bristol Mathematics Test
D*DD in Engineering plus either A in A-level Mathematics or achieving the required level in the University of Bristol Mathematics Test
Requirements are as for A-levels where you can substitute a non-subject specific grade for the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate at that grade.

Specified subjects

Where A-level Mathematics is not offered alongside this qualification, applicants may be invited to undertake a maths test at the University.Science-related subjects include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics, Geology and Geography.
