Union Refrigeration Technician
BRIEF OUTLINE OF SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Refrigeration Technician (Operator II) provides test equipment and facilities maintenance and repair support at an automotive test (R&D) facility. They will function as a member of a maintenance team but will be expected to work with minimal supervision and be responsible for the day to day maintenance and repair of SMALL and LARGE refrigeration systems.
Theywill be required to become familiar and comply with company and client policies for safety, security, and the rules associated with outside contractors working on-site. This position is key to the continuing development of a core competency in maintenance services, and is instrumental in establishing a long-term maintenance support relationship with our valued client.
Specific duties will include:
Clearly communicate in a timely manner the status of work efforts and activities to responsible facility engineers and test (user) group customers.
Maintenance and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment in a high paced automotive test environment, e.g., boilers, air handling units, rooftop HVAC, makeup air units, pumps, and motors.
Proper documentation of Refrigerant recovery per EPA and Client expectations.
Use of common hand tools, multifunction electric meter, refrigerant recovery equipment, etc in a safe and appropriate manner to independently monitor and troubleshoot equipment and control systems involving single or multiple integrated systems
Perform inspections and repair of installed systems
Visually inspect assigned equipment to identify problems such as leaks, unusual noises & smells, excessive temperature, proper fluid levels, filter cleanliness, power supply problems, electrical distribution equipment trouble, motor maintenance, control and instrumentation anomalies, etc.
Troubleshoot, maintain, and monitor all components of a refrigeration system: compressors, motors, evaporator coils, refrigerant selection, absorbers, condensers, expansion valves, flow control valves, gauges, pumps, cooling towers, etc.
Perform follow up repairs and/or coordinate to make repairs when problems are found
Request support from vendors as necessary
Accurately record information related to maintenance activities including the creation, editing, and closing of work orders
MINIMUMEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND /OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimumof 5 years work experience as a Journeyman refrigeration mechanic with a concentrationin industrial refrigeration. Must hold a Universal CFC certification/license. Associatesdegree in a technical discipline or equivalent technical trainingpreferred.
Be capable of safely stopping work wheninterrupted
Provide constructive feedback on maintenance tasksand the manner in which they are executed
Receive feedback and be accountable for ownactions
Display confidence and ask questions
Communicate clearly (verbal and written) withcustomers and inter-department teammates
Read and interpret technical literature andmanufacturers’ specifications
Proficient with PCs and common software, e.g. MicrosoftExcel®and PowerPoint®, and Adobe Acrobat
Experience with CMMS software; SAP, Maximo,CWorks, Manager Plus, etc.
Possess PLC, VFD, and system/facilities controlsknowledge accompanied by experience with software and hardware/instrumentationrequired for facility integration.

ABILITY TO PERFORM FIELD WORK IN TIGHT SPACES, MANUEVER IN AND AROUND FACILITY EQUIPMENT WHILE OBTAINING MEASUREMENTS AND PERFORMING EQUIPMENT INSPECTIONS AND TROUBLESHOOTING. REQUIRES THE PHYSICAL ABILITY TO WALK AROUND LARGE FACILITY, UP/DOWN STAIRS, CLIMB FIXED LADDERS, ETC.
- FIELD WORK MAY BRING INDIVIDUAL INTO CLOSE PROXIMITY OF EXTREME HIGH OR LOW TEMPERATURES, HIGH SPEED ROTATING EQUIPMENT AND HIGH NOISE LEVELS; PRIMARILY INSIDE, OCCASSIONALLY OUTSIDE
