Process technology and continuous improvement support for Amines Technology Platform manufacturing sites.  Provide team leadership and expertise in the areas of new product/process introduction, productivity project work, and plant technical support.  Utilize advanced process engineering and applied process R&D skills to lead teams in troubleshooting efforts and general plant support as needs arise.  Provide process engineering & applied process R&D expertise in support of e-MOC, OPHR and technical risk management.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the successful introduction of new products and processes.  Lead and/or execute the experimental work required to support scale up activities and develop a robust commercial scale manufacturing process from small scale laboratory data.  Partner with R&D, asset management and plant engineering/operations to plan/coordinate trial manufacturing runs.
  • Identify, develop and execute plant productivity projects to drive improvements in the areas of production capacity and cost reduction.
  • Generate scope of work documents for small to medium sized capital projects as required in support of these efforts.  Manage the execution of small projects.  Provide front end loading and follow up technical support for larger projects to enable execution by Project Engineering.
  • Function as the main point of contact for technical support requests from manufacturing sites.  Coordinate and/or lead plant technical support and/or major plant troubleshooting efforts as needs arise
  • Initiate and drive to completion e-MOC in support of assigned projects or as needed elsewhere
  • Participate in or lead site hazard/operability (HAZOP) reviews in support of assigned projects or as needed elsewhere
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of operating plant hazard reviews (OPHR) including the timely completion of assigned projects/actions resulting from the reviews 
  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering 
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience.  Beneficial work experiences include support of optimization and productivity initiatives within operations, continuous improvement/Lean or Six Sigma training, process engineering, applied process R&D engineering and production engineering.
  • Comfort providing technical support to a manufacturing site on a remote basis.  Position is based in Allentown and will require travel to/from plant locations to be effective.
  • Comfort working in a plant environment.  Position requires working on the plant floor directly with plant engineers, operations and maintenance staff on a regular basis
  • Ability to work effectively across R&D and manufacturing.  Capability to manage laboratory scale projects in support of plant operations.
  • A high level of initiative and self-starting skills
  • Ability to apply strong engineering and troubleshooting skills in response to planned and unplanned technical challenges that arise in a chemical manufacturing plant setting.
  • Capability of handling a heavy workload, establishing priorities and adjusting priorities as dictated by business needs
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
