Railroad Structural Engineer

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out structural engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Prepare structural engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids

  • Develop structural details, plans and specifications

  • Prepare technical reports

  • Field related work including site visits, material and data collection, bridge and site structure inspections

  • Participate in continuing education activities

  • Collaborate with team and other discipline members on project development

  • Perform structural analysis and design for bridge related structures

  • Perform calculations with respect to code compliance (AASHTO, AREMA, AWS, ASTM, etc.) and project specific standards and requirements

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with either a Professional Engineering License or Structural Engineering License from any state in the United States

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Must have experience with structural type tasks and projects which mostly involve railroad bridge design, highway bridge design, and other miscellaneous structural tasks that include design for shoring, retaining wall, and general foundation calculations

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work successfully in a team atmosphere is required

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Steel and Concrete Design

  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation

  • Experience with STAAD and/or other structural analysis programs

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to perform field work (bridge inspections, site visits, etc)
