Lecturers in Discipline are full-time non-tenure-track faculty members who meet a need for instruction in specialized fields. The Industrial Engineering and Operations Research Department is committed to hiring outstanding teachers to support the growing needs of its exceptionally strong undergraduate and MS programs. The IEOR department promotes a culture of innovation and experimentation in teaching including blended and online learning environments.
We seek candidates with teaching interests at the intersection of Operations Research, Data Science, and Optimization. The candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in data science and optimization at the undergraduate and masters level. Some of the courses will be aimed at a broad engineering audience. The candidate should be comfortable teaching both the mathematical foundations of data science and optimization, and the computational and programming skills needed to work with data and to model and solve optimization problems. Candidates must hold a PhD or its professional equivalent in Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related disciplines. Since this is a teaching position, applicants must have excellent teaching credentials and communication skills. Experience with blended and online learning is a plus.
Columbia fosters multidisciplinary research and encourages collaborations with academic departments and units across the university. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
